The Miners' Hymns

The Miners' Hymns
Next Wednesday (23rd October) we present The Miners' Hymns as part of our Film Archive strand.

The former coal mining communities in North East England are the subject of this inspired documentary by multi-media artist Bill Morrison. Their story is told entirely without words, yet the film is far from silent: it features a remarkable original score by the Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson.

Archive material charting the transfer of miners from the Durham coalfield to Stoke-on-Trent's collieries will precede Bill Morrison's elegant, elegiac film, and We Are Not Defeated, the story of the fight against pit closures, will be introduced by The North Staffs Miners' Wives Action Group.

Further information and a trailer can be found here.

An admission price of £4 will apply for this evening's presentation. Please note that advance booking and seat reservations are not available for this presentation.
